Metro Salvage UK Ltd has attained both the Environment Agency Waste Management and Waste Carriers Licences and is audited on a regular basis to maintain our standing. We are an Authorised Treatment Facility for the recycling of End of Life Vehicles and their De-pollution providing a direct link to the DVLA for carrying out the destruction aspect of the process and issue of Certificates of Destruction in line with the End of Life Vehicle Directive 2003.

Treatment Operations

The treatment operations will require all fluids, tyres and batteries as well as hazardous materials to be removed from End of Life Vehicles before the shell is sent to the shredder for re-processing.

  • Engine oil and transmission fluid will be drained.
  • Windscreen washer fluid will be removed.
  • Engine coolant will be drained.
  • Power assisted steering fluid will be drained.
  • Petrol and Diesel will be drained from the fuel tank.
  • Brake fluid will be drained from the reservoir & pipes etc
  • Wheels will be removed and separated from the tyres.
  • Hazardous materials including mercury containing switches will be removed if easily identifiable and locatable.
  • Lead Acid Batteries will be removed.
  • Refrigerant will be removed from the Air Conditioning system.
  • Air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners will be removed.

European Legislation dictates that a specific process must be followed when disposing of an End of Life Vehicle. There are many companies who want your scrap car and will offer free collection. Not all of them are Authorised Treatment Facilities – Not all of them hold Waste Transfer Licences. One way of checking is to ask for a License Number.
